We hope everybody had a great 4th of July last week! It was our first 4th overseas, but the base did it up right and we had the most awesome fireworks spectacular ever!
We are leaving on Tuesday to meet Nikki's mom in Tokyo. Gonna spend a couple days in Tokyo, then toodle on down to Kyoto for the Gion festival, then hit Nara (the first capital of Japan!) and then come back to our own Iwakuni. So keep checking back--Kintai Koala will have loads of adventures to share with you when we return!

A couple of announcements. First, Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there!
Second, we wish to express our deepest condolances to Bob and Emily DeJesus and their family. Bob's little sister lost her battle with cancer this week. It was a long and drawn out illness. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. If you want more information, please visit: http://www.ohayocon.org/dejesus.html
Our good Anime Iowa buddy Rob Ashby's also passed away recently..We seem to be losing quite a lot of good people lately. They will both be missed greatly, and they will continue to live on in our hearts and memories. God keep watch over their families left behind.. Lord knows we will do our best from way over in Japan.

Boy, it's been a while since we've written here. In the last month, Nikki went back to the States for a couple of weeks, then Steve went back for JACON and A-Kon (both fabulous by the way--look for some Kintai Koala pictures soon!) Now we are all back in Japan and getting back into the swing of things. We can't wait to do some more travelling so Kintai Koala has more adventures to post! The last couple of weeks we've just been hanging around Iwakuni and going to the beach (aint life rough!) But check back soon for more news and adventures!

Gearing up for Golden Week here! Golden Week is the first week of May in Japan, and it is the week EVERYBODY takes off and travels around the country. Here in Iwakuni, we're expecting over 200,000 people at "Friendship Day," which is May 5th. That day, the base is open to everyone, and there's a big air show and vendors and other things.
So we might be pretty busy the next couple of weeks and might not get many posts up. But we hope you all are enjoying the site!!
New this week: Kintai Koala's adventures in Tsuwano!

\Anime St. Louis was a blast!! Had such great fun with everyone there!
So for those of you who are interested: Steve and Nikki now live in Iwakuni, Japan, which is right below Hiroshima on the Seto Inland Sea. It is very beautiful here. Nikki is Air/Water Program Manager at Iwakuni Marine Corps Air Station, and Steve actually is working as a Production Artist for the Marine Corps Community Services. And they are so cool because they let him fly back to the States for conventions!! He's doing a lot of work for banners and posters and magazine layout for the Air Station. Drawing art and getting a salary for it!! Whooda thunk?
We are travelling as much as we can on the weekends. Today we found another little beach near us and tomorrow we're going to Tsuwano to see the annual horseback archery event. Check out the Koala Klub page for Kintai Koala's adventures, and you can see some of the pictures!!

Welcome to the first posting on the new website!! We hope you enjoy the site, but since it's so new, please e-mail the webmaster with anything you notice that's amiss (links not working, etc.) We're still working on it!!
We've been super busy here in Japan, and it's been hard getting the time to update the site. Steve is working here as a production artist at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, so he's really keeping busy, but he'll be at Anime St. Louis in a couple of days!!!
Japan is wonderful, we've been travelling a lot. So check out the new and improved "Koala Klub site with some cool info about visiting Japan. And on the main page, you can click on the map of Japan and bring up a bunch of pictures we've talken of places we've visited so far!
We'll keep adding stuff to the site, so just bear with us!! We hope everyone back in the States is doing great and the economy isn't bumming you out too much. Keep attending the shows!!!! |
